Javier Arevalo

Dr. Javier Arevalo (D.Sc. Agriculture and Forestry) is researcher at the School of Forest Sciences at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF). Javier Arevalo received his doctoral degree in Forestry and Agriculture from UEF in 2011, specialized in international forestry education (curriculum reform, capacity building and student-centred teaching methods). He has worked in various research and capacity building projects in the areas of bioenergy and international forestry education, with collaborations and research visits in countries such as Brazil (Universidade Federal do Paraná), China (Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University) and Kenya (University of Eldoret). Javier is member of the Institute for Natural Resources, Environment and Society and founding member of EduSilva, an association for the promotion of the forestry education.

David Gritten

Dr. David Gritten (D.Sc. Agriculture and Forestry) is Programme Officer at the Center of the People and the Forest in Bangkok (Thailand). David Gritten received his DSc in Forestry and Agriculture from the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) in 2009, specialized in forest governance. He has been lecturer in different courses at the University of Eastern Finland, the Northwest Agriculture & Forestry University (China), and has worked as a researcher at the Forest Sciences Center of Catalonia (Spain). His research includes ethical analysis, forest conflicts, and governance of natural resources. He collaborates with the University of Eastern Finland and the Forest Sciences Center of Catalonia. He is founding member of EduSilva, an association for the promotion of the forestry education.

Blas Mola-Yudego

My name is Blas Mola. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Forest Engineering (1999) and a Master’s degree in Forest Engineering (2004), both from the University of Lleida (Spain). In 2002 I spent a traineeship at Skogsstyrelsen (Jönköping, Sweden) and thereafter completed the Master of Science in European Forestry (MSc, 2005) at the University of Eastern Finland (Joensuu, Finland). I obtained my doctorate degree (DSc, 2009) focusing on energy-crop development in Northern Europe. In 2012, I obtained the degree of Adjunct Professor (docent), and completed a master of social sciences in Human Geography (MSSc, 2013). 

After my doctorate, I worked for one year as a researcher at the Finnish Forest Research Institute (METLA/LUKE). In 2011 I joined the Department of Crop Production Ecology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Uppsala, Sweden) and in 2014 I was awarded the title of Associate Professor in Biology with emphasis Ecology. From 2013 to 2016 I served as Research Professor at the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy Research (Ås, Norway). Since 2016, I have been based at the School of Forest Sciences, University of Eastern Finland, where I lead the Research Group on Biomass Production.
